This guide gives you a tested structure — the LOVE framework — used by elder-care specialists to introduce difficult safety topics without triggering shame, denial, or fear. It also includes ready-to-use scripts you can borrow verbatim.

Why most AI scam conversations fail

Three predictable failure modes:

  • You lead with the threat. "Mom, I want to talk to you about something scary." Their amygdala fires. The conversation is over before it starts.
  • You imply they are vulnerable. "I worry about you falling for this." That sentence reads as "I think you are diminished."
  • You give a lecture. Your parents raised you. Lectures from their child trigger pushback regardless of how accurate they are.

This positions the threat as something happening in the world, not something happening to them. They lean in instead of bracing.

V — Validate their existing instincts

"You always told me to verify before sending money. Turns out you were ahead of the curve. The AI scam stuff just makes that even more important now."

This converts the conversation from a correction into a continuation of who they already are.

E — Equip them as a team

What to do during the simulation

  1. Be there in person if possible. Sit next to them. The shared experience is the point.
  2. Do not preview the script. Let them hear the call as it would happen. The "aha" moment is the lesson.

What not to do
